Lenzing Modal delivers clear advantages over polyester for hot-weather workouts through better moisture regulation, breathability, and next-to-skin comfort.
Polyester remains the dominant synthetic fiber in the activewear industry because of its cheap cost and ease of use for manufacturers. However, these traits favor manufacturing ease and high volumes rather than optimal skin comfort and health. With a moisture regain of only about 0.4%, it is hydrophobic. It primarily moves sweat across the fabric surface rather than absorbing it into the fiber. In hot, humid conditions this often leaves a warm, damp microclimate against the skin and can create a clammy feel during sustained effort.
Lenzing TENCEL™ Modal is a regenerated cellulose fiber made from sustainably sourced beech wood. Its moisture regain ranges from 11–13%—roughly 50% higher than cotton’s typical 7–8.5% range. The fiber structure absorbs and releases moisture vapor, supporting a drier microclimate on the skin and aiding the body’s natural thermoregulation. Lenzing’s own technical information confirms these moisture-controlling properties help maintain thermal comfort in the finished fabric.
The same fiber delivers long-lasting softness thanks to its cross-section and high tenacity, remaining pleasant after repeated washing. Modal constructions also tend to offer strong air permeability, further reducing heat buildup compared with many denser polyester knits. The result is a cooler, less sticky sensation during gym sessions, outdoor training, or humid conditions—precisely where conventional synthetics frequently fall short in real-world comfort.
These performance differences rest on established fiber data rather than marketing claims. Modal’s plant-based origin also means it does not shed persistent microplastics the way petroleum-derived polyester does and offers better biodegradability potential under appropriate conditions.
At WOGLO we turn these advantages into wearable performance with the Siveo Collection—our Anti-Odor Lenzing Modal activewear line. Tees, tanks, and long sleeves for men and women use premium Lenzing Modal combined with silver-ion technology for natural odor control. The fabric stays ultra-light, soft, and fresh even after hard sessions, delivering unrestricted movement without the synthetic hand of typical workout shirts.
